Student Feedback and Consultation

City of London College recognises that meaningful student feedback is fundamental to maintaining academic quality, enhancing the student experience and supporting informed institutional decision-making. The College has established a comprehensive approach to student feedback and consultation that enables students to share their views, contribute to institutional development and influence continuous improvement across all aspects of college life.

Student feedback forms an integral component of the College’s Governance Framework, Academic Governance Framework and Quality Assurance Framework. Student perspectives are considered alongside academic performance, external reference points, regulatory expectations and other sources of institutional intelligence to support evidence-informed decision-making and continuous enhancement.

The College values feedback as an essential mechanism for understanding the student experience, strengthening institutional effectiveness and fostering a culture of openness, partnership and accountability.

A Culture of Listening

The College is committed to creating an environment in which students feel encouraged and empowered to express their views openly, constructively and confidently.

Students are provided with a range of opportunities to:

  • share their educational experiences;
  • identify strengths and areas for enhancement;
  • raise concerns and propose solutions;
  • recognise examples of effective practice; and
  • contribute to the ongoing development of the College.

The College values both positive and constructive feedback, recognising that open dialogue between students and staff strengthens academic quality, enhances services and promotes a culture founded upon mutual respect, partnership and shared responsibility.

Methods of Consultation

The College gathers student feedback through a variety of formal and informal mechanisms designed to capture diverse perspectives throughout the student lifecycle.

These mechanisms include:

  • student surveys;
  • module and programme evaluations;
  • student representative meetings;
  • Student Board discussions;
  • focus groups;
  • Academic Board and committee engagement, where appropriate;
  • informal dialogue with academic and professional services staff; and
  • other consultation and engagement activities undertaken across the College.

Using multiple methods of consultation enables the College to obtain both quantitative and qualitative evidence while ensuring that feedback reflects the diversity of its student community.

Considering and Responding to Feedback

Student feedback is reviewed through the College’s governance, academic governance and quality assurance processes to identify strengths, emerging themes and opportunities for enhancement.

Where appropriate, feedback informs:

  • programme review and development;
  • learning, teaching and assessment;
  • student support services;
  • policies and procedures;
  • learning resources and facilities;
  • institutional planning; and
  • strategic priorities.

The College is committed to responding to feedback in a transparent and timely manner. Students are informed, where appropriate, of actions arising from consultation, reinforcing the value of their contributions and encouraging continued engagement with institutional enhancement.

Closing the Feedback Loop

The College recognises that effective student engagement depends upon demonstrating that feedback leads to meaningful action.

Outcomes arising from consultation activities are communicated through appropriate channels, including:

  • Student Representatives;
  • the Student Board;
  • committee reports;
  • institutional communications;
  • digital platforms; and
  • other appropriate communication mechanisms.

By communicating actions taken in response to student feedback, the College strengthens transparency, builds trust and encourages continued participation in governance, quality assurance and institutional enhancement.

Continuous Enhancement

Student feedback represents one of several important sources of institutional evidence that informs the College’s approach to continuous enhancement.

Together with external examiner reports, awarding organisation feedback, academic monitoring, student outcomes, staff feedback, stakeholder engagement and developments across the higher education sector, student feedback contributes to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of academic provision and the wider student experience.

The College reviews its feedback and consultation arrangements regularly to ensure that they remain effective, inclusive and responsive to the needs of students and the expectations of the higher education sector.

Through embedding student feedback and consultation within its governance arrangements, City of London College ensures that students play a meaningful role in shaping institutional development, strengthening academic quality and enhancing the educational experience for both current and future students.
