Academic leaders work collectively within the College’s governance framework to provide strategic direction, operational oversight and academic expertise. They support the work of the Academic Board, contribute to institutional planning and ensure that academic activities remain aligned with the College’s strategic objectives, regulatory responsibilities and awarding organisation requirements.

While the Board of Governors provides institutional oversight and the Academic Board exercises authority over academic matters, academic leaders are responsible for implementing approved academic policies, monitoring performance and driving continuous improvement throughout the College.

Responsibilities of Academic Leaders

Academic leaders provide leadership across all aspects of the academic portfolio, including responsibility for:

• implementing academic policies, regulations and procedures;
• maintaining academic standards and the quality of learning opportunities;
• supporting learning, teaching and assessment;
• overseeing curriculum development and programme enhancement;
• monitoring student engagement, progression, achievement and outcomes;
• ensuring compliance with awarding organisation and regulatory requirements;

Supporting Academic Governance

Academic leaders play an important role in supporting the effectiveness of the Academic Governance Framework.

They prepare reports and performance information for the Academic Board and its committees, monitor the implementation of approved actions and provide evidence to support

institutional assurance. Working collaboratively across academic and professional service teams, they identify emerging risks, evaluate opportunities for enhancement and promote continuous improvement.

This integrated approach ensures that academic governance is informed by accurate information, objective evaluation and professional expertise.
